The Way of the Warrior

This week I would like to thank Lynn for sharing this wonderful video, The Way of the Warrior, by John Cali. John is a writer who communicates with spirit guides. You can sign up for his free newsletter at http://www.greatwesternpublishing.org/ and connect with him on Twitter and Facebook.

As I listened to John’s video I thought about an experience I recently had involving my parents. My 86 year old dad was hospitalized with pneumonia and my 85 year old mother is in the first steps of dementia. For the last ten years, I have been responding to emergency calls from them that always seemed to interrupt my planned life. As a dutiful daughter, I would give up my plans to make sure their needs were met, while inwardly I felt terrible. Within me was a furious battle, the spiritual warrior wanted to go on to the next worldly adventure and the spiritual teacher in me whispered,  " Walk the path of compassion.”

I wondered how I could either move to the center or bridge the two parts of me that called for me to be both a warrior and a teacher. Through mindfulness meditation, I realized that the adventure was right before me, giving me many opportunities to practice my spirituality. I paused and looked at the path of aging. Longevity is something we all want, but with it comes new and different experiences. I realized that my parents were trying hard to hold on to the life they knew: 50 years of living in the same house, attending the same church, voting at the same school, working in the same garden, and shopping at the same stores. But the world around them had changed, and the most devastating experience for them  was seeing many of their family members and friends make their transition. We talked about death and I felt their fear. The battle within me faded as I listened to their stories and tried to walk in their shoes. Our roles have reversed. I’m now the parent, caring and nurturing them. They are willingly working with me as we try to find the appropriate care for them to live a quality life.

And for me, I’m where I’m suppose to be. As John Cali says, “The Warrior totally trusts in - and surrenders to - the flow of her life. She knows all is as it should be. Therefore, she must always completely trust in - and surrender to - her Higher Self, her Soul, the Great Spirit.” And as I do this, the spiritual teacher in me rises to the occasion.

Turn Down the Static

A client recently asked me about how to contact her spirit guides. Whenever, I get this question my response is always—are you listening. From my experiences, guides are never not in contact with us. We just have to be in tune to them. This doesn’t require that that you have super extrasensory powers just an awareness and belief in their existence.
Consider yourself similar to a radio. We can turn the sound off and on or the volume up or down. As a human radio we receive information in many ways—sounds, images and thoughts. For example, crop circle makers use geometric designs to send messages. Our job is to interpret that message. It is the same with individual guides. They use a variety of ways to communicate with us; we just have to receive it and interpret it.
For instance, the other day, I had a strong urge to attend the service at the Self-Realization Fellowship Center. Interesting, the message was about letting go of fear and embracing happiness whatever one’s situation might be. The speaker used the example of letting go attachment to food and diseases and stay in a state of happiness. The very issues I had been dealing with for some time now and just in case I didn’t get the first message, I got a second one. Later that day while visiting a local bookstore, the following book jumped off the shelf at me---How to Be Happy All the Time by Paramhansa Yogananda. I know that Yogananda, my Guru, was sending me the message that it was time to let go of the attachment to illness.  Sometimes communicating with Higher Beings just means following your intuition or gut.
There is so much chatter in the Universe until our guides can be drowned out, if we don’t turn down the static. We attract to us whatever wave length our consciousness/thoughts are vibrating on. Most people don’t realize how much of the collective consciousness thoughts affect them. For instance, many people were tuned into the recent fear base thoughts of the Rapture and the world coming to end. As we know that didn’t happen, but a lot of people tuned into this message for whatever reason and perhaps missed a great opportunity to listen to their guides for the betterment of their own lives. Yogananda in the above book stated, “The more widely we scatter our energies, the less power we have left to direct toward any specific undertaking.”
Guides don’t interfere with our lives, but they can help us with those undertakings or life projects. More than ever this is the time to tune in and listen to your own magnificent beings.

The Adjustment Bureau Missed the Mark

The Adjustment Bureau is a love story. Watching it, I was reminded of the strong love relationship between Trinity and Neo in the Matrix. However, the  love story in the Adjustment Bureau lacks depth and sends the wrong message about free will.

David Norris, played by Matt Damon, a popular candidate for U.S. Senate meets and falls in love with Elise Sellas, a contemporary ballet dancer. As he tries to have a relationship with her, fate seems to keep them apart. David soon learns that there are several mysterious men who are actually doing everything in their power to keep them apart. He’s not just up again any organization, but agents of a Higher Power. He is told that he can accept a predetermined path written or designed by whom they call the Chairman or use his free will to risk everything and defy fate.

I was happy that Hollywood with top notch actors and a great budget addressed the issue of free will versus fate. Nevertheless, I wasn’t thrilled to get the message that we are being watched over by a patriarchic group of agents that have their powers in the hats they wear. What happen to the feminine aspect? It also leads you to believe that a male is the ultimate leader of humanity by using the word Chairman. How about chairperson? Additionally the agents were sometimes cruel and oftentimes confused on what they were suppose to do. This is definitely not my vision or what I have been taught about angels or spirit guides.

The ending is predictable, but I won’t spoil it for you. Go see it. It will make you think about your destiny and if a world exist beyond this physical one with entities that interfer with our free will.
