You & Physical Activity
It's the hardest thing to do. It's the hardest thing to start. It's the hardest thing to keep up over time. But keeping your body moving helps it thrive and function. It's a crucial part in keeping our aging bodies agile.
Research has shown when a body doesn't get the proper movement it needs, it degenerates. Inactivity of your body is eventually fatal. Physical activity of some type aids in proper digestion, helps with your circulation, and of course makes you look better in your clothing.
Think about what it would take to make movement apart of your everyday activity. Not just moving from your desk to your co worker's desk, but making a serious effort to adding at least 30 minutes of physical activity into your life as a daily ritual.
Now you're thinking, how can I get myself into a routine? Remember to keep things in balance. Not all fitness routines are made equal. Not everyone belongs in the gym, not everyone belongs in a Yoga class, and not everyone wants to walk outside for 30 minutes. Find something you like to do. Be experimental. Find an activity that will nourish your mind, body, and spirit. Start slow and build your way up to the minimum of 30 minutes a day.
The goal is get started and never stop. Here are a few tips to get you started:
- Find a friend to help keep each other accountable.
- Don't compare yourself to others. You are your only competition.
- Ditch the motto, "No Pain, No Gain." Adding hardcore stress to your body will wear it down quicker, hindering your overall goal.
- Find what works for you. Gym, outdoors, studios.
- Be accountable to yourself; scheduling your physical activity as an important appointment.
Remember to take care your body and your body will take care of you!
