As our solar system spirals through space, we are bathed in ever changing geometries of light. Each new moon beams another set of evolutionary instructions, which when followed, expand our consciousness and capacity for creation. New moons are optimal times to reflect on where we have been, and where we want to go next. What have you learned about yourself in the last four weeks? What are you being called to focus on now?
The next new moon forms on Monday, October 15 at 5:03 AM PDT in Libra, the sign of balance, partnership, and peace. Libra’s evolutionary goal is to relate to all beings as equals. Libra builds on the lessons of Virgo -- discernment rather than fault-finding, self-improvement instead of self-deprecation, service as opposed to servitude. The degree to which we have mastered the lessons of Virgo determines how well we do in achieving the goals of Libra -- harmonious, mutually beneficial relationships. If we project our shadow, rather than working on ourselves to become whole, we find ourselves in unbalanced relationships, either losing ourselves or dominating others. As evolutionary forces accelerate and intensify, whatever remains in our shadow is being brought to light. We’re all dealing with our personal unconscious, and the collective projections as well. A great mantra for these times is: What can I learn from this? What would Love do? Our every thought, word, and deed either helps move things forward, or digs the old ruts deeper. The more we integrate and transmute our shadow, the more light we hold, and the wider our hearts open. That’s the name of the game on planet Earth right now; we’re shifting from duality to unity, from polarization to cooperation, from a dominator paradigm to a heart-centered reality. The major changes we are experiencing -- in our lives and around the globe -- are the birthing pains of a new world.
For the past 5,000 years, most of the world has been under patriarchal, elitist rule. 99% of the world's assets are in men's names. 70% of the world’s poor and 70% of illiterate adults are women. Over a billion people live on less than $1.25 a day, while the combined wealth of the world’s 1,210 billionaires is greater than three billion adults. In the US, the typical white household has a net worth 14 times the average African American or Hispanic household; people of color comprise 30% of the US population, but 60% of those incarcerated. This new moon, along with the ongoing square between Uranus and Pluto, calls us to rectify these egregious imbalances and injustices. For inspiration, see the Resources section below, watch Marianne Williamson’s three minute video on spirituality and politics at http://sistergiant.com/sistergiant/on-spirituality-and-politics/ and see http://www.peacethroughcommerce.org.
Libra is classically associated with Venus, whose archetype derives from the Great Goddesses Inanna, Ishtar, and Isis; she is the Western equivalent of the Hindu Shakti, the creative power of the feminine, and central in Mayan cosmology as well. Esoterically, Venus is linked with the heart chakra, the subtle energy center which enables us to feel empathy and appreciation. Beauty opens the heart. Being in Nature opens the heart. Forgiveness and gratitude opens the heart. When our hearts are open, we know that we are an inseparable part of all Creation. We are able to see both the uniqueness and equality of all beings. We are compassionate and connected, rather than competitive and isolated.
This new moon closely opposes Eris at 21º Aries, a relatively new addition to our solar system, first sighted in 2003, the year Mars made its closest approach to the Earth in more than 60,000 years. In mythology, Eris is the sister of Ares, the Greek God of War, and is the goddess who tossed the apple in the myth of The Judgment of Paris. Her archetype as the goddess of strife reminds us of the dangers of denial, and her role in forcing Paris' choice between wealth, power, and love illustrates the necessity of determining our deepest values. Is your life in alignment with your core values? Take a careful inventory of how you are choosing to spend your time, energy, and money -- does it reflect what matters most to your heart and soul?
Juno, the asteroid named for the Roman goddess of marriage, aspects this new moon, plus Venus, Mars, Chiron, and Uranus as well, urging women to take up their power and prompting men to feel and heal their hearts. For insights on how to integrate your masculine and feminine sides, read The Maiden King by Robert Bly and Marion Woodman, Untie the Strong Woman by Clarissa Pinkola Estes, and visit www.lovesedona.com/02.htm. Jupiter’s square to Venus (exact October 16), encourages us to question and redefine gender roles. Saturn’s grand trine with Ceres and Neptune supports listening to our bodies, feelings, and soul intentions. On October 25, Saturn makes its annual conjunction with the Sun, providing a reality check. We’ve reached a limit -- physically, emotionally, and/or spiritually. Where do you need to commit more fully? Where do you need to let go?
This new moon conjuncts Arcturus at 24º Libra, the fourth brightest star in the sky. Edgar Cayce mentioned Arcturus more than 30 times in his readings, calling it “the highest civilization in our galaxy" and “the way, the door out of this system.” Other channeled sources identify Arcturus as one of several extraterrestrial groups who seeded life on Earth, and who continue to aid humanity’s evolution. A new moon aligned with Arcturus supports the healing and opening our hearts to each other, to the heart of the Earth, and the heart of the Cosmos. For more on Arcturus as a stargate, see http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/stargate/stargate04.htm.
In order for our relationships and world to change, we have to change. “Cultivate a life where truth is the most important thing... There is no getting away with anything... Integrity is seeing life in an integral way, that your spirituality is integral to your daily life. Commit, and find it in your heart to forgive yourself for all the things you’ve done all your life. Review all those things you feel shame about. Forgive yourself, forgive others. In the higher realms, love prevails; love is the air you breathe, the currency you use, the guideline for all your choices...” (Leslie Temple-Thurston, www.Corelight.org)
